Air suspension question?

Hey MB owners, I bought a 2000 s500 and I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to why my s500 lowers to the ground when the car is off for more then 15 minutes?
It rises to normal levels when turned on.
Please help!

it sounds like your struts are leaking. you should take it to the shop. eventually your airmatic pump will burn out from trying to keep the struts filled by running all the time.

Thanks for responding. That does make sense, when I move the car, there is a wet spot at the front of the car where it was sitting. I tried to see if it was oil, but it has no texture, sort of like a water substance.

Time to rebuild the front struts...There has been a post here describing the procedure, Not a hard job, but requires a special tool to do it.

Can you please forward the site to rebuild those shocks. My cousin is a mechanic so I think we can get through this. How long do I have (guess-ta-mate) before doing some real damage to the compressor?
Thanks again for all the help.

abhatti55 would probably have given you a link to the post if he had it bookmarked. I don't have it bookmarked either. You can probably find it using the search tool (a very useful feature all new guys should become acquainted with) - maybe with terms like "rebuild front struts."

There is no telling in terms of specifics as to how long you have before the airmatic pump fails - "not long" is vague, but accurate. Of course, we don't know when your problem started. However, one thing is certain: If you drive it when it is "down" you can cause a great deal of damage and increase the cost of repair by a lot.

You're in luck. While looking for sources of shop information I came across this link for airmatic repairs (though it seems to be for the strut mount seals; there are also lower seals that may need replacement in your case) - https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...=106930&page=2

A quick Google search on "Mercedes shop manual" got me a ton of responses, for both paper manuals and CDs.
