Horrible wiper blades...

Has anyone found an alternate source for better wiper blades than the ones MB provides?
My Mother's S55 is pretty much undrivable in the rain after the wipers age more than a month... Between the lack of actual water clearing, and the awful noise, it's just damned unpleasant.

I have a 2000-S class and I have put up with that noise and lack of visibility for years. Every time I get new blades it goes away but like u after a few months the whole thing starts up again. I y\to am interested in what to do!

That's the problem with MB's insistence on these ridiculous proprietary wipers.

The irritating wiper system was one of the reasons I traded my '99 E320 4Matic wagon for the Bimmer. (That and I got tired of automatic transmissions.) There isn't a Mercedes on the market with decent wipers. Such a strange issue to have with such otherwise wonderful cars.

Try using RAIN-X.

Rain-X (Brand name) is a solution that you apply to the outside of your windows to repel water. Water will easily bead up and be blown away during drives. At times it's not even necessary to use your wiper blades. You can get it anywhere (auto shops, Wal-mart, Target, etc). Look for a yellow bottle with a black cap/writing.

First step: take off those damn Bosch blades and throw them as far away from the car as you can!

Seriously, I put up with my stock ones for 6 weeks and they had to go...with the mono wiper on the W201, W208 series it was bad. Smeary enough that driving at night was difficult to see what was out there ahead of me.

if you get Anco's or Trico (anything EXCEPT Bosch) that they sell in auto parts stores, they will work much better. No smearing, chattering or goofing up the rain-sensor mechanism.

I've had these replacements on mine for a year and half, and they work very well.

Just don't buy the Bosch - whatever kind of rubber they use, it performs very poorly.

Have you seen the wiper blades and wipers on the current S class? It's even worse than the Cyclops wipers... They are TOTALLY proprietary, so far as I can tell. They don't even have a proper wiper arm, just some floppy thing that theoretically might put tention/pressure on the whole thing, but in practice works pretty poorly.

If they aren't actually proprietary, they're pretty damned rare. I haven't seen anything else using them.

If anyone finds replacement blades for the W220, let me know. My mom hates her car due to the wipers, which were crap in her old car 93 600SEL. My dad is even buggin as well, since his car does it too. I applied Rain-X and it's not even helping much, as the noise is worst at the lower speed setting. Nothing like paying over $100K for 2 cars and they each have crappy noisy wipers. TIA

What do u drive on rainy days? The new cars with 4-matic are made for such days.

In spite of the fact that I drive an AWD car (never again, though!), I have to wonder why you would need AWD for rainy days? The more I drive AWD cars these days, the more I regret owning one. Understeer! Understeer! Understeer! It's miserable!

The S55 is fantastic in the rain, especially now that it has Bridgestone Potenza S-03 tires. It's almost as stable as my Bimmer on much narrower tires, and that's pretty damned impressive.

Edit: The scary thing is that the S55 is only 600lbs. heavier than my car.

You might try cleaning the winshield with a paste made from BON AMI cleanser to get all the dirt off. DO NOT USE COMET OR ANY OTHER CLEANER IT WILL SCRATCH THE GLASS.

I find that the older the car gets the more small pits it gets in the glass from raod debris. This makes the glass rough and the wiper blades wear out faster.

What about Rainx Latitude, seems to be the only ones that actually fit, with the P&H adapter, my issue now is that the 28s hit the passenger side A pillar, so I might try the 26's...
