Lurching acceleration at low speeds with 2004 S500

When I accelerate from a stop with a cold engine, my 2004 S500 lurches forward. More specifically, let’s say I’ve stopped at a stop sign. I then very gently press down on the accelerator. Nothing happens. I press a bit more, very gently. Still nothing. Then a bit more, and suddenly the car lurches forward as if I had slammed my foot down on the gas or as if I were driving a stick transmission for the first time.

The car doesn’t do this every time, but it does it most of the time when the engine is cold, which is to say in the first 5-10 minutes. After the engine is warmed up the problem is gone. Other low-gear upshifts also feel a bit rough, but the big problem is the sudden jumping forward from a stop.

I can't say if the car has always acted like this, since I've owned it only six weeks.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, how did you solve it?

There is something very wrong with your car... It sounds like you need a new accelerator pedal module but I could be wrong. Either way letting it warm up is the wrong answer.
I have had slight random acceleration issues and they all went away when i got my pedal replaced. Take it to the dealer and have them check it out. Drive by wire means drive by wire so your car should always accelerate smoothly. Don't cheat yourself out of a great driving experience. get it checked out.

The problem could be with the electronic shift controller. I sounds more serious than any problem with firmware for the driver-adaptive shift feature.
