Side bumper lights

Has anyone ever retrofitted side bumper lights similar to these
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting

European Mercs dont have them, I was thinking about fitting them on my S320 (2001-Euro -UK) any ideas or experience with these ?

thanks

If I recall properly, you have a U.S. specification car in Europe (it would help if you'd post your year and model and whether it is U.S. or Euro spec). The style of cover pictured is for the Euro versions that use the side markers. U.S. clear covers do not have the hole.

See https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...25#post1632025 for the one I put on my car; also a discussion of the proper bulb for U.S. use - if it matters for your return.

Some of the links to sources for the lenses have expired - but when you find them, they will look just like your amber ones, but be clear (not frosted). A quick search found only the Euro style with the hole, but keep searching. They do become available.

To replace them, gently pry outward under the back edge; they're just held in by plastic clips molded into the cover itself. I used a flat bladed knife wrapped in thin cloth so as not to damage paint, but that was probably overly cautious.

Thanks sir.

Unfortunately European cars dont have side repeaters, so I am not replacing them, just installing them. I will probably need to replace the curved side mouldings on the front bumper with mouldings which take the side repeaters ( we call them indicators in thre UK) , thats if I can get them over here!

they are the smallest and only ones which you can fit in the small grill cover

Just to enhance the front, as they are not FOGS.
They are wired up to the main beam, so they are rarely seen on

Hmm Perfect.. This is what I have been looking for. did you have to cut the grill cover? I was planing on some type of cover modification if I found the right light.

Do you mid posting a close up pic?

I want to wire mine up to the Fogs.. I miss that look. It seems that all of the other benzs have it except the S. They finally got it on 2007. I'm going to order these lights today. Thanks for the info.

You might get them on e bay cheaper.

You have to get a 2 inch(50mm) whole cutter, and attach to drill.
Get it right first time , or its $40 for 2 more covers!
Leave about 1 inch visible in front, and twist to position correctly.
Then get a 1 3/4 inch diameter rubber seal to place over the lamp, tight up against the cover. This holds it in place perfectly. I will post some pics soon

cheers

Cool THanks a bunch!!

I already have a spare set of covers so I'll be okay. BTW They only cost $12.00 each for the 2004.

Where did you get the 1 3/4 rubber seal?

Thanks again..

Try any DIY/plumbers fittings shop. The rubber ring seals come in various sizes and are used on modern plastic pipe fittings.
Ebay have plenty under plumbing fittings also.

Try here too (cheaper) a choice of white or blue /white

Hi again, very nice

I was trying to take my PIAA lamps apart (as I always do to things ) to see if I could change the bulb. It looks like a sealed unit though. I guess the LED bulb wont ever fail?? If it does I guess it will be another lamp?

Are you guys running any relays with the fogs or just tapping into the fog wire harness?

Just tap in , they are only LED about 0.1 watt, so no errors show up. I used small crocodile clips , clipped on the end next to the main lamps, rather then scotch lock connectors. You can still close the main light cover over the thin cable wire, so no drilling holes in lamp covers is needed unless you want to. The wiring provided is easy, its just one piece with three ends, one for each lamp, and one single earth.

I actually have a push switch under my dash which allows me to run my piaa's in the day time which are very noticeable due to the led bulbs.. I am tapped in to aux. power so I can run with the rest of my light or without.

ballast and bulbs... The low beam is a D2S HID 6000K phillips Ultinon...I have seen lamps that have h-7 retro fit hid kits in them though which is a step below the D2S and the D1S
