![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I'm new here so I just wanted to say hi.
The first thing I did when I started browsing the MB-World forums was to look for a Classic MB forum topic and was a bit disappointed to find none. So, I guess I will have to let the more popular S-class forum do, since maybe that is the one closest to the subject. Are there any other Classic MB enthusiast lurking out there? Any Gullwing, 190SL, Adenauer, Pagota, 220SEb coupe/cabriolet owners?
Anyway, here are some pictures of my 35 years old MB. It's a 300SEL 6.3, 1968 model:

Yes, the 6.3 tag stands for 6.3 liters of the V8 300HP engine under the hood. Historically it was the first MB muscle car. It's age and classical look is exactly what makes it so special. Only about 6000 units of this car where made back in the late 60's and early 70's.

Thanks a.brewer. No, I'm not the original owner, but my uncle was. I was only 8 years old at the time he bought it, but I was old enough to decide that definitely some day this car would be mine. Not only was it beautiful; dark-blue with a black leather interior, but also very powerful. It was the fastest sedan in the world at the time. Today, it's my weekend driver and is only allowed outside when it's dry and sunny. It has 160.000km on the odometer and that would be just about 100.000miles, I think.

Yes, about 100K miles.
I recall once, Phil Hill (the great American F1 champion) remarking in Road&Track that his 6.3 was his favorite automobile. That's a knowledgable assessment, in my opinion.

WOOHOO!!!
Hey mr 6.3, finally someone else on these forums who knows/likes the classics... I posted a thread a little while ago about classic mercs and got zero response ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
CLassic thread (Link)
The silver car in the middle is my dads first 6.3, Silver with black leather. His second one (straight after the silver car) was silver blue with rare blue leather. The car was immaculate and still to this day is the best one i've seen.
I'd much rather a 6.3 than a 6.9. That raw edge just has something about it. Mind you, a 600 wouldn't go astray in my garage!!!!

Hi scorichi0 !
I visited the thread you suggested and waited for some minutes for the pictures to appear, but they never did. Must be a problem with the "www.webace.com.au" website because I was not able to connect to that domain.
Anyway, does your father still have the later blue 6.3? I agree, the 6.3 is much more interesting than the 6.9. Mainly because the 6.3 is a classic pioneer legend. The 6.9 somehow has much softer edge, although it has a more powerful engine (just like the successors today). It's missing exactly that raw element you mentioned. When you start the 6.3, people turn their head (if they haven't already). That engine was originally designed for a racing car. Besides, the w116 hasn't become a true classic yet, it's still just an old car. That’s also the reason now is the right time to invest in a 6.9.

Scorichi0, I decided to try visiting the thread again and now the pictures came through. Those are really nice coupes. The w111 coupe is my favorite MB body style of all time (...and I prefer the original high grille of the 220SEb, not the low-grille). I think the Paul Bracq made a timeless classical design there. It’s so unmistakably “Mercedes-Benz”.

hmmm, personally i like the low (3.5 only) grille. Still can't decide what bumpers i like though
The chrome bumpers are classic, but the 3.5 bumpers just add that little bit of moderness that strangely doesn't go astray on the 111.
I dunno, i think,m aybe its just the whole 3.5 coupe aura that attrats me to theat bumper/grille combo![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

300sel 6.3!!!!
Hey that is a gorgeus 6.3
there are not too many of them in shape in Europe plus added cost of gasoline makes them not too popular. I love those cars.
I am currently slowly going broke by making a 67 300se coupe with a 6.3 drivetrain. Maybe, Maybe will be done next year.
The coupe needed lots of work so I decided to go the wild way. If they ever produced 300se coupe 6.3 that would be one of the hottest collector benzes next to gullwing.
Do you visit the forum at www.m-100.org?
Also check out www.m-100.net THe forum is great and there is tons of documents for M100 vehicles.

Classic M-B's
When I was in high school I lived with a family that had a 1968 or 1969 M-B 280SE that I got to drive occasionally. It had over 100,000 miles on it and I loved that car like it was my own.
After I left 'home' I bought a new Honda Accord; I remember the first time driving it home on the rual roads and was surprised at the squeaks and rattles in my new car... that 100k mile Mercedes was far surperior with no squeaks or rattles.
It took me 25 years to afford one but I will always remember the build quality of that blue 280SE...
