Replacing factory cd changer with alpine aftermarket cd changer

Hi, My factory cd changer is faulty and needs to be replaced, rather than fork out the $1400aud ( $1250us ) that the dealer wants, I planned to fit an alpine aftermarket one, Im told that the factory one is alpine also, does anyone know whether all alpine cd stackers will function in my car or do I need to get a particular model, Also am I limited to getting a 6 stack one ( same as current factory fitted ) or can I upgrade to a 10 disc stacker ?? Thanks in advance, 2001 s550 w220 swb

as i understand it the audio system is all fiber-optic in the benz and i'm pretty sure no aftermarket system is compatible with it

I was told that all the MB CD changers for my model car were mage by Alpine. The only difference is that MB had a special adaptor that enables the changer to work with the rest of the D2B fiberoptic system. Rather than take that route, I found a used compatible unit on eBay for $150 and had the dealer install it. The one I bought did not come with the mounting bracket, so I ordered that from this dealer. They did not charge me anything for the install.

Here in the U.K. we have this company who can supply cd changer adaptors and or compleat cd changers. I changed my original cd changer to a clarion system when the original one stopped working and in the last 2 years have never had a problem. As it seems you are in Australia ashflash you could try emailing them and seeing if they can help with your question.

Here is the link to there site
