Charcoal Filters Under Dash

Well, well, Santa brought me an early Christmas Present - Dust and Charcoal Filters for my 2002 S500.

So no problem with the dust filters, removed the glove box replaced the filters.

Now the effing Charcoal Filters are another thing. How in the hell do you remove the bottom black panel that engages the Knee Protector and the Heater Housing. It has some catch lugs on it that slide into the knee protection and I see no way to move it forward to disengage it from the heater housing first and then get the catch lugs out of the knee protection.

Has anybody done this? Any Pics?

Sadly, I am coming to the realization that a chimpanzee does indeed have more mechanical aptitude than I

Any help would be appreciated.

Merry Christmas to All.

There have been some posted either here or on BenzWorld. Perhaps this will help: http://www.boschautoparts.com/NR/rdo...stallation.pdf

Hey Skylaw:

Thanks, but that only covers the dust filters, However, I did find the attached pdf.

It is very helpful, yet I still can't get the thing out.

2005 S500 4matic sport
Hi,

I have a 2005 S500 4matic sport with 23k...AC started to smell bad in summer so I decided to replace the paper and the charcol filters, although given the low mileage I thought I was wasting cash. However, once I got the filters out I was shocked at how filthy they all were. Anyhow, the hardest part about getting out the charcol ones were the dexterity required...had to slide my big *** under the dash...removed a few screws on that flat plastic panel and then had to gently pull it out...there are overlapping plastic flaps that only come apart by gently manipulating. Once you get this off, there are two nifty plastic hinged doors that swing open and all you do is slide out filters - straight down towards floor.

This was a pain in the ***, but car smells great now!
