Alternator problem
Hello all,
I had a problem with my w220 (diesel). Alternator seemed not to be charging the battery. (voltage to low<11 V)
Today I have charged the battery.
Started the car and the voltage over the battery poles was around 14 V with running engine.
Now I suspect I have an alternator problem. Loose contacts, worn brushes or something like that.
Does anyone now of a way to check/replace the brushes without taking the alternator out first?
Or are there suspect point for intermittent contacts?
Reason for this question is that taking out the alternator is a terrible job because it is a watercooled one and I would have to disconect loads of tubes and let away the cooling fluid..
