rear tires hitting guards

Hi guys, I have 275 width rear tires with 32 (or 34) offset on my W220. from time to time when i drive hard around corners or on uneven roads the rear tires (mainly the driver side!) rub against the guards (inner fenders) and marks the tire sidewall with a squeaky noise. this actually used to happen more often before i started to set the suspension on the sport mode (firmest) position all the time.
my question is if is there anything wrong with my Airmatic which i should have it fixed? do others have similar issues with their aftermarket wide mags/tires here?
also is it harmful for Airmatic system if the car is driven on 'raised suspension' most/all the time? cheers

i think this is a common problem with aftermarket wheels on the w220. i have the same problem but have learned to live with it instead.

there shouldnt be anything wrong with the airmatic unless it keeps making noises when the car is off. i'm sure someone else would be able to help explain it more because i have never had this problem before.

as for having the airmatic on raised position most of the time, i dont think it'd do harm to the car because i've been doing it for over 4 years now and there have been no problems that it caused.

Hi.

You simply have the wrong offset on your alloys.
It has to be ET 46 (with 9,5Jx19).

Substitute it with some for the S-Class and your problem is gone.

Cheers, Frank

I have 19x9.5 with 35et rear and a 19x8.5 32et front and works perfectly. 32et for the front is fine...but you need a 35 to 46 for the rear.. If you replace your rear tire though with a toyo T1R, that would help a great deal due to the aggressive rounded tract.

I have the same issue. I have 275/30/20 in the rear and the rear passenger side rubs on huge driveways or dips. I've lived with it. It mainly only rubs for me once in a blue moon. When I have 3 or more adults in the car, I drive it in the raised position. I rarelly have more than 2 people including myself so I'm good. What you can do is search a thread that I started in the summer time and you can see what benzondubz did to his car 2 solve the problem if you're really getting bothered. Its a really detailed thread about this issue. It starts off by me complaining about the wheels/offset problem.

you must have the car lower quite a bit.

Try this:

If you look at the fender well. The area where the bumper and the fender meets there is a edge from the bumper that extended about 1/4 inch. Trim some of that off. It may help.

I have the same rear tire set-up with AMG wheels and the car is not lowered. Never had any problems. Never.

S430 Sold :(
I have 20x10 in the rear running a 285 35 R20 Dunlop sp9000 even after I ground down the tabs that stuck out my wheel wells but they still rub against the fender. So I took it to the body shop and for $50 bucks $25 each side the cut off the fender lips that roll underneath the fender and grinded it down so it doesn't cut the tire..since then no issues what so ever.
