How do you remove the Command Head Unit?
I have a 2000 S500
I took my car to the MB dealer because I had a tape stuck. They could not remove it. Their only solution was to find some one else to repare the head unit or replace it.
I have shopped around, and found a used unit for $700.
I am a novice, so I am not sure how to remove the moulding around the the head unit, then remove the unit.
Does some one have a pics or some guidelines.
If you think there is something better to replace the head unit with, I am open.
Thanks,
Mark

You can check the photos at post #1, https://mbworld.org/forums/audio-electronics/194660-gateway-500-most-o-good-unit-poor-documentation.html - although I have a later model with a 2-piece fascia, the earlier models come out essentially the same way (except you will remove the whole fascia at the point where I removed the lower one). ivbenztech's verbal instructions to you in response to your post on BenzWorld will help you with the differences between yours and mine.
The fascia is held in by spring clips. Pry around the edges gently in several places to pull it free - best to start at the bottom, as ivbenztech recommended. I used a knife covered with cloth to avoid scratching the wood and the console covering. The wood is laminated onto fairly heavy plastic, so it is not really very fragile.
