Replacement Command Unit

I need to replace the Command unit in my car. I just took delivery from a less than reputable parts place, key numbers of the part number were scratched off, so I was not sure I was getting the right part.

Can some one reccomend a reputable MB parts place that would carry a Command unit?

Thanks in advance.

http://www.mercupgrades.com/ has a list of part numbers and sources; you'll have to dig a little because of the wealth of information on the site, but it's a marvelous resource.

In addition, http://www.mbdoctor.com/ may be able to help you. And near your locale, Potomac German Auto - http://mbpartsonline.com/ - may be able to help for used or salvage parts. From the site you can find their DC/Fredrick MD locale and visit in person. I have friends up there who swear by them. A bit of a drive from Charlottesville, but probably worth it.

And BE SURE you get a "D" nav system, not a "C" nav when you replace it. "C" nav CDs are hard to find, but you can still get fairly current "D" nav discs. The COMANDs listed for '01 and '02 models are plug 'n play for your car, and will be "D" nav units.

You could also consider retrofitting a wide-screen COMAND MOPF from an '03, but you would have to add an Audio Gateway (AGW) to have it work with your car. It also uses the same CDs that the "D" nav uses. You would also need the two-piece wood fascia kit (or parts, if from salvage).

I am also sure you could order through a dealer; my only experience with anyone remotely close was American Service Center in Arlington, but I know that's a drive for you. It's also expensive.
