I have a 2000 S500 and it's low on coolant fluid.

Do you have to use the coolant fluid from the dealer or is there another brand that I can use?

The only coolant recommended by MB is their coolant, Part No. BQ 1 03 0002. Theoretically, any coolant that meets the MB 325.0 specification for the protection of aluminum water pumps can be used, but I don't think you'll find any other than theirs that has that certificatiom.
