water seeping from fender trim

for the last couple of months ive noticed water seeping from behind the trim piece on the fender just forward of the drivers front door.it was crazy,id wash the car and dry it and that trim would never stop that slow drip down the fender.so today i jacked up the drivers side and pulled the front wheel and removed the aft inner fender well plastic.shoved all the way back in the corner is a factory installed soundproofing bag.it is a piece of foam 3x4x20.encapsulated in a plastic bag.the factory must have punctured the bag on install cause this bag was two thirds full of water and the plastic clips that secure the trim to the fender were pocking into the bag and wicking the water out slowly.im glad i took the time to figuer this one out cause eventually there would have been a horrible corrosion issue,or worse to take a trip to mammoth and have this giant ice cube freeze and deform the fender.ill post the pics tomorrow.

Check both sides. It is aknowissue with early W220's. In some cases also the fixing points of the fendor and the trim may already be corroding, becauseof the steady water exposure. I had this problem, and MB did replace the soundproffing partand I got the fendor repainted.

unfortunately i pulled the soundproofing my self so i cant take it to the dealer, the bags are only $25 each so im just going to do both sides to eleminate the corrosion potential.
