Is there a difference between the S600 grill and the s500 grill on the 02's? I saw an S600 the other day and could not figure out what the difference was, but they were not excactly the same. I know they were different pre 2000 models. Just curious.

I don't know about an 02 model, but I know I bought the grill for the S600 at Mercedes because the one on the S600 comes with titanium gray painted slats.

So it's the color not the amount of slots. I thought there was something different.

I think what you are referring to is the distronic option that puts a vertical 'slat'

in the grill...search for google 'distronic grill' under images and you will see what im referring to...not sure if it was avail on the 500, but not all (but many do) 600's have it so some think it is the '600 grill'....

Try searching on eBay and checking out various pictures of the 2002' S class. I am sure there are plenty of them for sale there.

I don't think this is true for an 02. Only 2003+ had different slat colors. 2000-2002 should all be black slats.

Another interesting note...I remember reading that the facelift on the W220 required a new slightly higher hood (and probably slightly modified grille) for the S600 since the new twin-turbo V12 was larger and needed more room under the hood.
