Just "bought" 2000 S430

My friend's wholeseller just got this for me:

2000 S430
Black exterior/Tan interior
Xenon, Nav, etc...
29,000 miles

I got it for a steal, 45k.

I've checked www.alldata.com for all the "problems" with this car and they printed a long list. Did I just make a huge error? The car is still in warranty and I'll probably take the extended warranty from a local dealer (a friend mentioned something about 6 year/100,000 miles extended warranty).

Should I just drive it around and just go down the alldata list and then take it to the dealer?

What other gremlins should I expect from this model year? Or should I just turn around and sell it off? (LOL)

Thanks for your help.

Dizzy

I am and will always be against buying first year models. I my opinion, the first year is the experimentation year. Mercedes finds out all the flaws through consumer complaints and their research centers and implements the changes in the next year's production. This explains why your list is so long. Try looking at the report for 2001 and 2002. You should notice the shorter lengths of the lists.

Just driving the car around probably won't do you any good because the problems you are anticipating will happen when you're least expecting them. Besides, I think that any obvious problems would have already been taken cared of by the previous owner.

In your case, I would take the car and sell it. Then I would pocket the profit and look for a 2001 or 2002, depending on your financial abilities. But if you REALLY love the car and don't mind putting up with visits to the dealership, then keep it and consider it a good deal (considering the price).

On www.mercedesproblems.com there are a lot of unhappy 2000 S-class owners.
