Warning on STAR diagnosis from www.obdfactory.com
Hello all
I bought a STAR 2000 diagnosis equipment and IBM T30 preinstalled with DAS software from seller lucy@obdfactory.com
The process of buying went smooth, however the system didnt work, the DAS software couldnt get any contact with my car. Talking with the seller she assured me that this was a problem with the software and recommended to reinstall it. Problem further was that the DVD`s she sendt me included an uppgrade version of DAS and couldt be installed alone.
Talking with the seller Lucy again (actually i had many, many mails to her) insisting that she takes the pc back to reinstall and verify the problem i was gently pointed to try to reinstall myselves the software. She also said i should try on another pc. The standalone DAs version i was promised and asked for 3 times never came.
Now i get noe more response on my mail to seller.
So per day i cannot say if the diagnosis equipment dosent work. But the computer with the preinstalled software did definatley not work.
So now i have to get a standalone version from other sources and find out things myselves.
BUT THIS IS A WARNING: IF YOU WANT TO AVOID PROBLEMS IF YOUR EQUIPMENT DOSENT WORK AS PROMISED, STAY AWAY FROM OBDFACTORY.
There are many other companies out there delivering the same thing.

YOu should have asked here first.. This was a thread before and I already knew that crap didn;t work that' why I didn't buy it. Plus they could not confirm the SW version, correct cabling, and would not sell it without that outdated laptop..FLAG!!! so I backed off.
Next time Research before you jump.. And what did you plan to do with it anyway? do you know how STAR works?

The problem i have experienced is that their service is bad if you get a problem with equipment.
I am in contact with the seller now. they are offering to help me solve the problems, and i hope they will be solved. I will report back to this thread about the outcome.
The last comment you have on why i want to use star i think is quite self explanatory, why would one want to buy a diagnosis assistant system ? and on the far side, do you need to know ALL functions of MS Word even if you just use it for simple letters? you could of course use notepad, but possibilities for expanding with it is limited.

Well. It turned out that the T30 clone was a poor product. I have purchased another box and installed the system myselves, and it works 100%
But there are many sellers out there and its difficult to know the quality of what is bought.

The problem is most likely with the serial port configuration. I had initial problems too. A normal serial port has handshaking = None, setting it to handshaking = Hardware made it all work. I am using an Acer laptop with PCMCIA serial port adapter and Windows 7.
