This is really helpful for people who have not had the probelm yet and want to address it before it happens.
Can I ask where exactly to look for this hairline crack? Is this under the bonnet on top of the struts?

The struts that leaked at the top have mostly worked their way out of the fleet. I would not suggest any preventative maintenance for this problem. It never led to "explosive failure" when it was common - just slow leak-down of the struts.

However, one also has to consider "down the road costs" with airmatic. It can get costly. But you can get the struts from FCP Euro now days (lifetime warranty)

2000 s500 electrical issue car starts but no airmatic and no dash lights no windows
my 2000 s500 car starts but fan turns on immediatlly the dash lights dont come on airmatic compressor doesnt turn on windows dont work headlights dont work air conditioning doesnt work. i need answers and need it fixed asap its my only way to work

Very few people will be interested in chasing through eighty posts in a fifteen-year-old thread to look at a demanding post on a totally unrelated problem.
