Thinkin of pullin the trigger...

Just found a 2001 s430 amg rims/bodykit, extra winter tires, xenons, 118000kms (about 74000 miles) For $21,900 Canadian.

I don't mind the s430 instead of the s500 but can u guys tell me what to look for before I go down and pretend I don't really want it!? And please ask me questions to ask him or if you want to know anything else? Thanks!

ehhhhh.......not a good deal. There all day long on ebay for 15K to 18K with decent miles and the AMG bodykit. I personally think you can do better but thats my opinion here is one that didnt sell on ebay that 1 year newer amg kit for sale at $18,500 that didnt even sell http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-...m170216788963&
this was an 02 with 72K miles that sold for $15,100 with amg kit and 2002 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-...m260237200815&

I would offer him $16K max and show him this listing on ebay or this post...it is for sure a buyers market right now...and price will continue to drop on these cars. So I would say the ball is in your court. Good luck with your negotiations.

True...but he should use it as leverage to get a better deal. "why buy from you when I can get cheaper elsewhere" that the line I use. It shows you the dealers true colors either they will deal or not ...pretty simple.

Depends how desperate the seller is. When I sell my cars and someone brings me that line, which they always do. I just say "then go get it from that guy" and dont waste my time. But if he really needs to sell it he'll definitely fall for it

If I could buy a Benz from ebay and simply drive it back home and register it with no problems, I would have done that 3-4 months ago! But I don't know if you guys south of the border know, but up here in Canada, MB and BMW are screwing us bug time! They are charging us exorbitant prices for clearance/admissibility letters before you import a vehicle. Then to pass manufacturer's safety regulations, the importer has to pay to convert the instrument cluster/bumpers/daytime lights/french labels/ etc... and the conversions have to be done at a DEALERSHIP!!!

They are ripping us off big time. I would LOVE to pick one up in the States and bring it home, but alas there is definitely not a free market here! Currently there is a class action lawsuit brought against the Canadian government and MB/BMW for conspiring to cheat the public, but I doubt it will go anywhere

Trust me guys, I have done all the reading necessary for importing and it seems more of a hassle than anything (which is exactly what MB/BMW Canada wants) so I figured for the extra $3k-$4k which I would have to spend for conversion, I might as well pay the extra and buy a Canadian vehicle.

I would still shop a bit more. These cars can't be that much more expensive in Canada. There are a lot of member here who reside North of the Border who have gotten deals right there. there isn't a huge difference in the exchange rate so I think there are lower prices or newer vehicles with comparable pricing out there.. just keep looking.

Thanks for passing on some hope... I gotta be honest though, although prices are around parity, they have not been adjusted in Canada. The best places to check are autotrader.ca and local listings and there are barely any deals there. There just isn't that big of marketTrust me, if there was a place I could check besides autotrader/kijiji/craigslist I would have. If you know of ANY other places I can check, I will do it. I want to pick one up in the next 2 weeks. But Canadian availability is very different compared to the States, at least if you want a good deal Any advice would be really appreciated if you know any other websites I can check!

UMM DEF DONT BY A 430 WHEN YOU CAN SCOOP UP A 2001 S55, 2001-2002 E55, OR 01-02 CLK55 FOR BETWEEN 19K-28K.

DEF CHECK THE BUYLINES, CRAIGSLIST, LOCAL DEALERS INVENTORY AND EBAY.

You really think the 01-02 E55 is nicer looking than an S-class of the same MY? I guess that boils down to personal preference. I have looked at these models too, but the CLK and E classes just don't do it for me but the s-class with an AMG body and custom wheels.... that's my dream right there!

And buying a Benz through Ebay is useless for Canadians, unless I go through the tedious import process which is categorically designed to cause more headaches than save money

have you looked at the local autotrader? How bout buying a car through a local dealer who goes to an auction? Im sure if you put money down on a car then next time he goes to an autcion and picks up a benz he will do a conversion to canda specs and if you can do it atleast you will know how much profit you can get from him. maybe if you set a price for profit like $2000usd that should be enough for their time to look specificaly for a car for you. Just my .02
