Brakes & Rotors
? for you guys, on my 2001 S500, my brakes are worn out, I had a message in the display on for a couple of weeks, mentioning Brake Wear - Visit Workshop, about a week ago I got in and the display went red saying Brake System Failure.
I contacted a local guy who does mobile Mercedes Benz repair, he came out and looked at the car which has 99,000 miles on it and said I needed new brakes and rotors on the front and rear.
He mentioned putting on Cermamic Brakes which even me with my limited mechanical knowledge told him I didn't think the car had that on it. He said it would be better than what I currently had on the car.
He proposed:
1 Set Front Pads $99.01
2 Front Rotors $205.50
1 Set Rear Pads $80.43
2 Brake Pad Sensors $12.77
1 Air Filter (which I knew was dirty) $54.50
2 Rear Rotors $191.35
Labor $195.00
Gopher Fee $25.00
Total Cost $863.56

Is it wise to put Ceramic Brakes on this CAR?
I don't think the price is bad, actually half the price of the dealer, should I be concerned about the quality of parts used???
Only 2 brake Sensors, is it one front and one rear or should there be four?

For those in the know, what should I be looking out for?

Ceramic brakes are for race cars
They squeal pretty badly until you heat them up
Edit: BTW, is the price listed for ceramic brakes or not?
Also are the parts OEM Mercedes or what?

I believe Akebono's are ceramic and I personally have had really good results with them. A main advantage of these pads is no brake dust. If they are using this brand then you should go ahead and let him install them. I don't know about the other brands out there.
