Trunk opening issues.
Trunk opening issues.
Hi, we recently bought a S430 2000, it's a terrific car, but the trunk seems not to be working correctly, and i'd maybe some of you know what the problem is; I can open the trunk manually with the metal key, and when its opened, we can hear an air leak coming from the black 'cable' on the right, but it stops after a few moments and the trunk is very stiff to open and shut. Secondly, the trunk release on the remote, the 'push-up' button over the license plate (when key in vertical position), as well as the one on the drivers door don't work.
Any suggestions, thank you !

May be is your PSE pump inside the trunk on your driver side ,which above the CD changer and NAV. This pump support air for your door soft close , dynamic seat adj and trunk close and open. Try this first, find the fuse under your rear seat(passenger side, see your oweners manual). pull the fuse out and put it back. start the car for a min and try to open the trunk with remote or driver's door control or the open botton on the trunk. If nothing work, may be you need a PSE pump, or if your trunk opening will work for a wile, then some where is leaks air, again it may be the PSE pump too. try above first. Good luck
Well... all four soft-close doors work fine, such as the dynamic seats; i think the pump is fine, but i can hear/feel air coming from the black cable (see picture)
and i checked the fuse and it wasn't burnt. ...

Even your door and seats work fine, the PSE pump may still not work for trunk, so after pull the fuse and put it back , did you start the car for a min and try to open the trunk again, I know the fuse may not burnt at all, just try to reset the pump. If you feel/hear the black cable leaks, you may need to open the panel on the trunk itself and also the panel on the passenger side to find out where is the leak. Good luck.

It sounds like a leak near the trunk lock mechanism. This has been written up several times lately - simple fixes. Unfortunately I did not bookmark them - but a search on "trunk will not open" will get them for you.
Allright, well i played around with it this afternoon and I figured ou what the 'problem' was; everything around the catch and so is fine, the PSE pump is fine also. It's an air leak coming from the cable on the right hand side, now i was wondering if it was possible to replace this pecullar cable ?

lifethrasher,
No one can actually diagnose where your leak is coming from over the web. We can give you our past experiences, and the techs who contribute can give you patterns of failures that they see. But it is obvious that your leak is occurring between the pump and the lock mechanism. If you can access the leak, it is a simple repair.
You could try a number of things - spray water on the latch mechanism, check for bubbles. If you eliminate that, then it is likely right where you hear it, in the line. Unfortunately, getting to that line looks like a real pain.

i recently was able to fix my trunk closing issue which i rootcaused to a bad solder point on the pump motor (dc motor) pcb. once the cold solder was identified and redone, everything worked perfectly. i am glad to have been able to fix it myself and save at least $500.
