Anyone have a problem with EZ Pass on the S500/600?

Is anyone having problems with their EZ Pass on the S500 or 600? When placed to the windshield, the toll booth doesnt detect the tag. If anyone has had this problem, how did you fix it?

Thanks...

thanks for the link, but no1 in that forum seems to be experiencing this problem (ive tried the locations they mention and it doesnt seem to work) so this may be specific to the s-class.. (?)

thanks again though.

I currently have a 2001 S500 sport, and the ez pass will not work on the s class models from 2001 on, because of the special infrared coating in the windshield. You have to get them to link your lic. plate number to your car i.e. explain that you have an S class and they will make allowances for you. Alternatively, as silly as it may sound, you may have to hold your unit outside your car through the window when passing through the electronic readers on the highways.

I don't lnow about on the S-Class, however, on my CL class there is a small area in the lower right side of the windshield that doesn't have the "material" that blocks these devices. Therefore, this is the area EZ pass and related systems must be mounted. My owners manual talks about it as well.

Does the S-Class have this as well ? I would think it strange if it didn't.

It will work on the 2001+ S Class. The placement area is within the black spots on each side of the rear view mirror. Trust me, that area works. If they would state that in the manual rather than show a diagram which leads you to think the area is below the blackened area around the rear view mirror. Radar detectors can be placed at the lower side of the windsheild, at an angle, you can see the clear area.

(This coming from someone who used to hold the ez pass out the sun roof until someone from these forums educated me)

The small area on the lower right side is designated for your radar detector. Sometimes during the day if you look at an angle, you can actually see the outline of the cleared area.

The EZ Pass is designated to be placed within the blackened areas to either the left or right of the rear view mirror. Supposedly MB blackened this area so that the pass would not be visible from the outside of the car.

I've found my I Pass does work in the black area above the windshield but only after trial and error because the owner's manual is vague. I assumed the lower right spot was for a radar detector and will have to do the same thing with mine but was hoping it would work in the center. I have a Valentine One and placing it on the lower right side will block the rear sensor.

dunno, my passport has a rear sensor and picks up just fine in the lower right side. Or though it seems to anyway.

Thanks for the tip. When I looked at my windshield as you suggested I found the clear area.
