TRUNK opens a inch with Fob and inside switch

Sorry if this is a repost as I am new to this forum as well as to owning a MB.
I just purchased a 2002 S500 and love it but in the past couple two days my trunk seems to be having issues. when using the key fob or the switch inside the trunk unlocks and only opens about a inch even holding the switch inside or the key fob nothing happens.

If I use the lock over the plate the rear opens fine (all the way). Inside switch closes the trunk fine. Wondering if anyone has any ideas. I looked through the forum but haven't found quite the issue I am having. all isues read are opens half way or can't trunk doesn't seal.

thanks for you help in advance.

Whatever there's gas in...
here's a shot in the dark but wasn't that some type of feature? Where the trunk only opens like 1/4th of the way? I could be wrong.

Yes, there is a trunk limit setting in the options you can set from the instrument cluster. I don't think it can be set to only open an inch, but check that out first.

Thank but looked at that. there is a setting, not on the instrument panel but on the trunk switch. It stops it about half way. My problem stops it basically by just unlocking and won't go up all the way with the inside switch or the remote. If you use the lock switch over the plate it goes up fine.

I will play with the inside switch some more in the morning. jsut odd since it isn't doing the limitation of half way.

BTW that feature of going up half way is good to the point of not hitting anything above when the trunk opens but rather useless since you can't put anything in or take anything out of the trunk either

I have the reverse problem!

Very interesting.

With my car, if I use the lock over the plate (keyless go only), the trunk only opens an inch.
If I use the lock open (inside the driver side door) it opens fully.

Sunil has indicated there are separate pump assemblies, he has not looked at it in detail but since it is likely to cost $400+ I have just lived with not using the lock over the plate.

Unhappy

for the most part you are right and sounds similar. Haven't brought it to the dealer yet and if it is $400+ I can live with out it and just walk back to hit the key button on the plate.

Just odd as when using the remote or the inside switch, it sounds like it's trying to lift so maybe your right about the vacumn pump
