Steering wheel volume controls (my gripe)

........Why on earth would they put the controls on the right side of the wheel? It's almost the same as just using the radio.....lol. I guess I got spoiled from the Infiniti's controls which are on the left and the time when I need it is when I driving with one hand and it's right there accessible.
Did they change this in the W221? I'm guessing NO because my g/f's 08' C300 still has right side controls

I think you are overstating the problem a bit. MB intends you to drive with your hands at 9 and 3 o'clock, and as such, the controls are placed perfectly. Of course if you are rolling around with your left hand on the top of the steering wheel that may be a problem, but thats not a terribly safe way to drive.

I have no problems with the control layout.

I agree it's ergonomically in the right position. (who drives with their left hand on top of the wheel??......LOL)
I'm referring to it being on the right vs. the left.

Smile Volume Control Gripe

Here in the UK we drive on the left (correct side), so the volume control is on the right hand side of the wheel, so when resting your arm on the window they can be operated with the right hand thumb.

LOL, hence the european made car. This was the point I was trying to make. I guess more MB's are sold in Europe, than the US so we have to suck it up

Sounds to me like a difference of opinion among right-handed and left-handed drivers. I would find the Lexus arrangement inconvenient; and if I were driving with one hand, it would likely be the right - so the switch is conveniently located for me.

And if I were doing something with the right hand, such as adjusting air temperature, I likely wouldn't be adjusting volume at the same time; plus, the manual volume control is also easily reachable, so if my hand were already near the console, I'd use the rotary knob.

Since Japan drives on the incorrect side of the road the same gripe could be told by them as well. I don't think they change the steering button for incorrect versus correct side driving.
