2004 S500 Navi update disk

Hello All,

I am in the USA and have a 2004 S500 W220 currently with the 2004.1 navi disk. I have just ordered the new Navi DVD (MBUSA/Harman Becker DVD 2009 NTG1) from Navteq for my car and now when doing a bit more reading, it looks like I may have to upgrade the navi before it will recognize the dvd. In anticipation of this, I've been looking for the specific part/disk number and I see conflicting reports of W220 589 05 22 00 and W211 589 15 22 00.

Can anyone give me a straight answer on exactly what the part number is? Does this update take place by inserting the disk into the DVD in the trunk or the command head? Also, is this something that I can download from the internet and burn or that must come in DVD form from the dealer, etc?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Quick update, I just received my new MBUSA/Harman Becker DVD 2009 NTG1 MB Part number BQ6 46 0243 and I followed the instructions and installed it in the trunk and 2 minutes later, it was uo and running so it doesnt look like I need the firmware update after all.

That said, I currently have my GPS coorinates as well as the signal strength and ready indicator for the phone showing in the bar below the map but I can not find ETA anywhere in the various menus.

So the confusion still reigns supreme. I read numerous posts that seem to say that GPS and the ETA are both part of the same firmware upgrade. If that is so, I should have ETA hiding somewhere.

Can anyone please confirm? Thanks as always for the help.

The best information I have is Konigsteiger's series of posts at https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...ml#post2645001

The ETA feature is provided by the Command unit update disc, not the nav unit update (which it seems you don't need anyway). It also deletes the engineering menu that some folks love to hunt for.

I believe that the 220 589 05 22 00 part number is what you need, not the W211 589 15 22 00 part number. BTW, it is sold as a tool, not as a part.
