s430 trunk-lid question

Am a newbie so be gentle. 02 S430 sport -- need to remove the insert that is sandwiched between the trunklid and the rear license plate. Removed the license plate and then 2 bolts below. Seems like it may simply pop-off but not sure. Before I get out the mallet, figured I would ask for help. Thanks.

Welcome..

Open the trunk and remove the liner. There will be two nuts or bolts directly behind the insert inside the trunk lid that need to be removed. After that, the insert can be taken off but be careful it still has clips that require you to pull away from to get it free. I would remove the license plate first also, as either the top or the bottom set of screws go all the way through.

Good luck...

This panel is secured by four nuts, (visible once you removed the trunk liner) I suspect that you will have to remove the bolts behind the license plate as well, 2ea designed to secure the European plates. As stated in the previous post, you will have to exercise caution when removing this panel.
