S430 trunk "soft close" mechanism failure

I had a problem that was fixed by the dealer when my car was under warranty. Now a similar problem came back and I am out of warranty so I wonder if I can DIY? I need push the trunk down to get it to close - the sensor or actuator is not operating properly and trunk stays up the half an inch, unless I push it closed manually. Thanks for any help!

Does the soft open mechanism still work fine/ If so, then all you may need to do is to reset it by disconecting the battery and open/close the trunk a couple of times. Mine used to be half open after unpluging the battery.

much easier way is to pull the 20 amp fuse in your rear fuse box (under the passenger side rear seat, there is a little light with a plastic cover. Remove that and you'll see the fuses.

If you search, you will find a whole bunch of results.
