East-West Navigation

I own a 2003 S430 Sport. Does anyone know if the navagitation system will display a true four directional compass? There is a diamond shaped symbol which points to the north at all times, and therefore you also know were the south is. However there is no indication of east or west that I can find.

I have a 2003 S Class 430 as well, and in the display (it only points to north) I guess we are to figure it out ourselves.

There is no S, E, W indicators.

I've always assumed that since it always points north, south is to the bottom, west is to the left of the screen and east is to the right of the screen. I have a 2000 S430 btw.

AMGLAB, u can have the direction of your navigation always point north when u are following its directions or u can hit that diamond symbol and have your car always point up and the map moves below. When u do this north will not be on top unless you are going north on a road.

Regarding the nav, I'm really disappointed with it. They should have given us the ability to put the house # in (not just a range) and at the arrival of our destination, it should clearly indicate whether or not the house is to the left or right.

Sean,

I had the same thought-that the NAV would park me infront of the correct house. Although the system is capable of doing this I understand that the Uncle Sam won't let them download this type of precise info from the satellites - it's restricted to the military or something like that.

Actually, the Mercedes is the only one that does not. The BMW, Lexus, does. so do all the aftermarket Alpine and Garmin Systems. The accuracy is important!
