Brake Job for S500 year 2000-Best brake pads?
I have a 2000 S500 with 79k miles.
I'm going to attempt my first brake job. I have new Zimmermann disks cross drilled type. Can anyone suggest what would be a good brake pad? Most of my driving is light city traffic.
Will there be any special tools required?
Will I need to bleed the brakes after changing disks and pads?
Should I use the anti squeek stuff?
Do you know of any sites or threads with step by step directions on how to do this?
Thanks in advance
Gary

1. NO
2. GOD NO!!!
3. Pads come with shims, Anti squeek is fine if you have the BIG brakes, the two pins go under the spring an squeal like a pig. you can eiither change the hardware, of use hight temp lube or silicon there.
4. do a search you can find step by step.

I agree that bleeding brakes is not a step when changing your pads, but also point out that now that you're the car's brake mechanic you need to know how old your brake fluid is. You should not go more than two years without flushing and replacing the brake fluid. It absorbs enough water from the air in that time to cause corrosion of the master cylinder and calipers.

HA ha this is he wrong place for that false statement.LOL.. at any rate its the worst place if you like the color of your wheels..
I actually bought a set of Bendix pads from Autozone and they dont dust at all. Maybe its the open rims I don't know but I'm pretty happy with them. And they Stop good.

I just replaced front brakes and rotors and know I have to pump the brakes to get it to stop. I was planning on bleeding the brakes but I read on here that I dont have to. So what could it be?
