Ok, my 2006 S350 started doing the pre-safe dance a few days back and today it did it twice, and the check engine light came on the second time. Coincidentally, the car is going in for service tomorrow morning (and I have extended warranty on the car). If it is the valve body, I hope the warranty covers it.....Is it safe for me to drive this home and back to the dealer tomorrow morning or do I have to stay in at work alnight and drive it over to the dealer who is about 15 minutes from my workplace (my home is 30 minutes away from work in the opposite direction).

BTW, the pre-safe messages coincidentally have only come on (albeit 3 weeks or so later) after I swapped on winter tires on my car. Any correlation or coincidence?

bugzbunny, the dealer will be able to read the codes and tell you if it is the valve body. I did not believe them and got two more opinions. After $300+ in diagnostics, two dealers and one indy... It was the valve body. It's a non-serviceable item, so as to which specific part is bad, no body cares. MB won't sell the internal parts to anyone... not even the dealership.

OK, I took it in to the dealer and since it was still under warranty, they did the following:
a. Electrohydraulic control unit for auto transmission remove/replace
b. Replace support for electrical set for Auto transmission.
The service report also says: Perform guided test, RR Trans valve body, replace faulty elec. contact plate.

They also went ahead and replaced the belt tensioner since the thing was squeaking under idle condition. Free-of-cost, , of course.

Car runs mahveluz now.

I am having the same issues with my '03 S430!. SRS Pre-Safe Inactive light keeps coming on followed by the AC turning itself off alngwith all electrical in the car?! The shifter will get stuck and sometimes the car refuses to start. I dont know what to do? At first we thought it was a battery issue...then they thought a key issue so we ordered a new key...now the new key has screwed the computer up and now my ODO is reading 262,000 miles instead of 62,000??????!!!!!!!!!!!!! The dealer is wanting $2k++ to repair what they think may be the problem however are not sure - I am at a total loss here!!!!!!!!!!!!

mercedes really need to tally up all the problems with the cars they build. and issue recalls, but they wont because we have lots of money to burn, their economy is great maybe because they build these cars to quick and so are the engineers.
