Playing cassette with motorized cover open?

Got a cheap tape to MP3 adapter for a road trip. When the cassette is inserted the motorized door closes only until is pinches the wire leading from cassette adapter and opens and spits it out.. any way to play tape with door open so i can use adapter?

Interesting, most of the time mine closes all the way. either way, I have had moments were it didn't close all the way and it didn't cause any problems.

mine plays for a half second before the obstruction in the motorized door causes it to say tape error and open the door again and spit the tape adapter out..i may use a hammer to flatten the wire a little and see if it will close all the way

WOW, that seem like a little much, where is you wire located on your cassette adapter. I would just bring it back and get another one. my wire is located on the left side toward the door closing unit and causes no problems. The tape goes far enough in so that when the door closes the wire just raises till it almost closes. You wire may be to thick coming off the tape. Mines is super thin.

ive had this problem and the solution i found is when the cassette door is closing, push it up as its closing with your hand and push against the wire and when its closed it should stay there at least it does for me. you just need to assist to close the door all the way and then it will push on the wire more and you wont get the tape error

Same, i use a tape adapter on my '99 S430 and have found that the cover will stay closed as long as you help it close and push it fairly hard when it reaches the top to squash the wire coming from the tape.

I used a razor blade to trim away some of the sheathing on the adapter cable. Works perfectly .

I used on of those cassette adapters. It worked for a while, then it got stuck. It topped ejecting.

Long story short - I ended up replacing the whole Command unit because of the jam.
