How do you take the mirror signal lights off a w220?

Tilt the glass right up, then look under it into the housing. You will see a shiny metal clip at the bottom pressing against the car side of the housing, push that down while pulling the housing away from the car and the whole thing slips off. You may need to tilt the glass vertical again once the housing has cleared the clip, as it doesnt slip past the glass very easily with it tilted.
The indicator strip is attached to the housing, you unscrew it from the inside once removed. For this reason be careful when removing the housing from the car as you need to unplug it.
