S-class auto-close trunk

hi all,
my auto trunk open/close function acting a bit funky.
no problems closing, but when i try to open from the trunk, the button only makes the trunk go up 1-2" - i have keep holding the button down in order for it to open all the way. it wasn't like this before.
anyone have idea...i have 3rd party warranty for components, but i need to know what the items might be.
thx.
Patrick

Do it feel loose when you push the button? If so that might be the problem, take the inside panel off and tighten it.

thx for quick feedback.
this board's been great for me.

i don't think it's the trunk button as i think it's solid.
also, this does the same even if i use the my remote to open.
therefore, my gut feel thinks it's related to hydraulics - not sure as i'm not mechanically inclined.

Your welcome........I thought you might of had the same problem I had. Mine was just with the trunk button and it was because of it being loose. Good luck, hope it doesnt cost you an arm and a leg.

You may want to try and adjust the rear trunk lid. ALLDATAdiy gives a procedure that doesn't sure any specialty tools, just feeler gauges. Your Mercedes 220 Trunk lid should have gaps as the following chart indicates. Let me know if you need help trying to align it.

trunk closes fine but opens only halfway when opened and you have to manually push it up the rest of the way. I looked on the vehicle setting on dash, and only setting is auto lock on/off. no option for trunk limiter as some have mentioned here. thanks for your assistance.
