HELP??? Serpintine belt flew off???

HELP??? Serpintine belt flew off???

2002 s600

Belt still in one piece but flew off?? Idler pulley?? which one is the idler pulley?? does anyone have a belt or engine diagram?? What is the process to replace the pulley if thats what it is??

very common problem , i think the idler pulley is about $50 and the belt diagram is on the engine i think.

When you lift the hood, look straight down. There is a detailed diagram on how to put the belt on.

The image shown in ALLDATAdiy.com shows the Idler pulley/ Tensioner Pulley for your Mercedes S600 (220) To the right and up from the crank Pulley. I have attached a picture right from ALLDATAdiy to help to find it. Looks like you will definitely need to remove the fan shroud. Turn counterclockwise to remove the belt.

Diagram attached. There are two pulleys, a guide pulley at position 4 and a tensioner pulley at position 7.

Both can be replaced without removing the shroud--and I speak from personal experience--but the tensioner pulley is both a long reach and in a tight spot and would be easier to remove and replace without the shroud in the way.
