No street names showing on navigation

I just purchased latest navigation cd for my 02 s500. The problem is that on my navigation all i see just the street grids but not the street names as you can see in the pic.
Is this is how it is for my year model or i messed something in settings?
Please share your experience..
Thanks.

Not sure how it is for your year model but those are some Square Azz Streets!

I have an 03 with the bigger screen but same command and it's the same. It only shows you the street you are on.

Yea here in chicago they are square straight lines but why it shows only the street you are on. I have the hundred dollar one from walmart it shows all the streets with the name on it.
There is another member on mbworld said that i might needed software upgrade. I dont know if its true or not ? I am going to wait untill i hear from other members..
Thanks

i have an 00 and it doesnt show street names either , i dont think my nav has been updated either. Its pretty pathetic but remember in 2000 and even 2002 the portable navs barely existed and they certainly weren't the price they are now!

I think that the NAV is just dated if you can figure out a way around it let me know.

Have YOU?

That does nothing more than give you ONE line..... and maybe an intersection.

Are there any updates worth having on any MY00-MY03 benz's?

Interested...

I too would be interested in knowing if there are any updates that could be made to the command system. I have an 02 s430 and even with the newest Nav CD, i still only see the street name for the street I am on...

I tried zooming in all the way but did not help either. I have to figure out about this software flush, that could be the problem.

My '03 did not show the names. The '05 does. I doubt anything earlier than '04 showed the names.

Oxygen do you think this could be the problem.

Chi--you may need to have the software flashed in your nav reader. I bought an '08 DVD to replace the original one in my '04 S430 and it wouldn't read properly. I called NavTeq and they told me I needed to have the software upgraded. I did so (under warranty) and everything was fine. I don't know if the CD-based systems need software upgrades when you move to newer maps, but the folks at NavTeq or the dealership could probably tell you. If you have to pay for it, I think I was quoted $140 for mine until they decided it was a warranty issue (my car was still under factory warranty)..
Thanks.

No. I think it's simply that the pre-2004 COMAND units did not display the streets. The updated Nav disk only updates map data, not the actual navigation software that is in the unit.

I'm sorry, did I offend you by Capitalizing the word YOU? If so, you are too weak to access the INTERNET. I did nothing more than state the obvious to your "helpful" question. At the zoom level which he has posted in the OP, you see no streets. But on any other Nav unit after 03 it will show at LEAST every other street if not every street. therefore Zooming In still will not show the street with the name on it, only the street name you are currently travelling on or the upcoming street name. Get what I'm saying?
