Advice on Misc upgrades/service

OK so im looking for some advice from the veterans on the board on a couple of things....

Im going to be replacing the front airmatic shock, but i found a decent write up on that.

Front brake rotors and pads- i havent found one on the fronts, just the rears.

Belt Tensioner Pulley and belt- any tricks?

Fuel Filter, how much work?

Ok thats enough for now...... off to think of some more. Thanks!

Another thing... can i take off the calipers and paint them?

1. My 4matic has different brakes than your standard model, but the process is largely the same.

A. Loosen front lug bolts, Lift front end, and secure on jackstands/lift
B. remove wheels
C. Remove pads (should be the same as the rear, remove pins lift out pads)
D. Remove 18mm caliper bracket bolts from vehicle
E. slide bracket/caliper off rotor and support somehow (I just put them on the tierod)
F. Remove rotor bolt using either 40 or 45 Torx socket
G. Remove rotor (you may need to hit it with a sledge a few times to get them off)
H. Clean new rotor, install, tighten rotor bolt
I. Reinstall Caliper bracket/caliper
J. Install new pads/sensor, and lube all parts you can.

2. Belt tensioner pulley and belt.
A. Use 17mm socket and breaker bar to loosen tensioner and remove belt (note how it goes on the pulleys).
B. Using torx bit or reverse torx, remove tensioner pulley
C. Install new tensioner pulley
D. Lay belt around pullies except 1, loosen tensioner, slide belt all the way on, release

3. Fuel filter
A. Remove plastic covering
B. clamp fuel lines with special clamp
C. Remove hose clamps
D. Remove old filter, install new filter
E. Put on new hose clamps and tighten
F. Remove special clamps
G. Prime fuel system by turning to key to on (not start), and back off twice
H. Start car, check leaks, reinstall panel.

Thanks for the write up! Not to ask the obvious here... but where is the fuel filter located? What should I lube the brakes with/which pieces? Thanks!

fuel filter is by the drivers side rear wheel well iirc. Never done one on a 220, so I'm not sure of the exact location.

Lube the back of the brake pads at least. Like I mentioned, I have a different caliper type, so do a search on brake squeal, and you will find lube recommendations.

Use MB brake lubricant

rotors do wear.

Check the thickness and see if they are below the minimum etched into the rotor.

I replaced my front rotors at 32k miles, and given how inexpensive they are, I recommend you do the same.
