2003 S430 Sport Package
New Battery
I recently purchased a new battery from Napa Auto Parts. They had three to choose from, varying in price from $125-165. The more you pay, the longer the warranty, but since they are pro-rated anyway, I bought the $125 one. Direct replacement for the factory one, but use the original cover from the positive terminal as the one that comes with the Napa battery is oriented differently and won't go over the cable.
Mine is an S430, don't know if the 600 uses a different one though. They also give various discounts, ie Auto Club, etc. Mine actually cost a little less out the door.
They will charge you a core charge, so I just changed mine in the parking lot!
Edit: just did an online Napa search, they do use the same batteries.

I got one from autozone $80 , walmart has them for $50 or $60 but they seemed hard to find in stock. I read online there are only 3 companies that make batteries they are just relabled with the company that rebuys them.

there must be a difference
hopefully someone with the knowledge will respond and let us know why the OE german batterys last/perform so well compared to our domestic batterys.i also would like to replace the battery in our 2003 S500 sport.it hasnt given any sign whatsoever of degrading but i feel that by the time you are having weak battery symptoms you have allready put the alternator through hell so im just gonna be proactive and throw a new OE german battery at it and have the reliability that was designed into the car remain intact.

There are two types of battery that MB use on their car. White and Black color. The White one is cheaper ($125 at my local MB) and the black one is a lot more expensive (can't remember but I think it's just under $300). The black one lasts a long time and maintenance free. The white one is not maintenance free. The black one is made out of gel-like material and will easily last 5+ years.
By the way, you can get Sam's Club battery MB replacement for about $60 with 84mo. warranty. This is the same as Walmart. They will also install it for free.
