Replacing Catalytic converters and O2 sensors???
Hello,
I have to change passenger side cat converter on my 2001 S430. Has 115000 miles. I got quote from local shops and the dealer, but it is very expensive. In the range of 2000 to 3000 dollars. So, I decided to do DIY. Ordered parts and just got it today. I need help please. I looked everywhere, but could not find step by step instructions, how to do that and changing O2 sensors!!
Can someone point me to the right direction? I appreciate the your inputs in advance. Love the forum.
Thanks.

Thanks. But we don't have that shop around. Actually, the shop, we have don't want to do it. They want to order and then put it up, but don't want to do it, if the parts are already with us. that is why, I wanted to do it myself. Thanks anyway. I know, someone will come up with that instructions.

Do you have access to welder? If you do, Magnaflow makes good cats and also, if you go to www.rockauto.com and search under 2002 mB S series, you can get the entire OEM unit for $450.00.
Check the Magnaflow site first.

I already have both Direct fit Cat converters(about 5 ft long each) and 4 oxygen sensors. I have read lot of materials about it, and it should be very easy as there are 4 bolts at the beginning and couple of U-hooks for to support the whole unit to the car body. But if I can find step by step instructions, it would lot easier. That is what I am looking for. I appreciate your inputs.

You say you have both 'direct fit cat converters about 5 feet long?' Is this a Mercedes part with flanges on both ends? If so it is as simple as unbolting the old parts and bolting in the new ones; use plenty of penetrating lubricant to soak the old nuts and bolts before attempting to loosen them and install new gaskets between the flanges when installing the new pipe. It will help greatly if you can get the car on a proper lift since the pipes are so long.
From where did you purchase the new pipe/converter assembly? I need to perform this same swap.
