Can I raise my car on a lift with the car turned on?

Can I raise my car on a lift with the car turned on?
I want to try and locate a possible exhaust leak. I want to know if I will harm any of the airmatic components if I have the car turned on while the car is lifted (wheels are off the ground) off the ground. thanks

I do it all the time on both of my cars R230 & W220 never had a problem .
