Crazy Tire Wear

I have 1 year old tires on my S430 4-Matic. They are Toyo Tourivos from Les Schwab an 80,000 mile tire. Roughly 19,000 miles on them. The front tires are wearing perfectly while the right rear is BALD in the middle tread and the left rear is wearing evenly but is worn down even with the wear indicator. Anyone have any thoughts as to why this is happening? Thanks.

the car is heavy and all wheel drive it is even worse when it is RWD. I remember I would go through at least two rear sets a year. the right rear seems like it might be overinflated that is why it is wearing in the middle. (happened to me before) they say you will get 80K out of them but realistically 20K to 24K miles if you are lucky. also it depends drastically on wheel size.... the info above is providing you have the 18 amg's. If you go bigger in wheels like 20's you are lucky to get 12K miles out of the rear tires if you run a 25 or 30 series tire...it is like riding on rubber bands.

Thanks for the reply jfendis430. They are the OEM 17" wheels. I was afraid it would be something stupid like tire pressure. no matter what though i'm going to have to replace the two rear tires. Extreamly frustrating...$190/tire only to replace them every year?

Personaly I would KILL to get 19K out of a set of tires. Our cars are HEAVY to say the least. I routinely get anywhere from 8-14K out of a set. But I do drive like a

See yeah

PS: If the center is worn out, and the sides are still good, DROP your tire pressure my friend. I do not give a RATS you know what about factory settings, and use 37 front, and 32 rear on my S. Just food for thought.

try running -3.5 camber in front and -2.5 in the rear (180sx) to make my wheels fits and yes i track it like that lol

i would kill for a center tire wear on a lowered car

even with the benz once my wheels come in and lowering links ..

WHOA

If that doesn't EAT up the inside edge, I don't know what would. Heck I never ran that much negative camber on my race car. I'll bet she truns into corners GREAT. Seriously, that's insane to run that much negative camber on the street. You must go through tires every 5k my friend. Do you have a picture, as It will remind me of a champ car running on a road circuit with that much tilt in.

See yeah

Wear in the center on the tire is generally an over inflation issue. How often are you checking tire pressures?

The last time I had tires put on I checked my pressures and 2 out of the 4 were inflated to 70psi! It always pays to check your pressures.

my plight is even worse than yours -- try driving a large vip-styled car. i went through a pair of 245/35/19's every 3 months for a year. that's the result of running -3.7* front and -7* rear.

this is daily driven too, btw.

they're 18x10 +5 with a 235/40/18 and 18x11.5 +2 (they were 18x11.5 -13, but i had them shaved down 15mm. no widebody here!) with a 245/40/18 on a y33 chassis infiniti q45. the car's lowered 6+ inches from stock -- i'm thinking of going with a smaller tire so i can run less camber. remember, this is a daily driven car!

on a really crazy stretch tire you cant really go that fast... but like on my 180sx its a track car so it actually is not bad...

my truck has a good 80k and the tires are just goin bald but then again i try not to burn out ...

i'm thinking of picking up a w220 s65. i haven't measured what kind of wheels can go under, but i want to stretch the crap out of the stock tires. 19x11 19x12? i need to buy the car and bust out the tape measure, hahaha.

there are ways to get more camber out of the stock arms (that's how platinum's ls460 was done -- no one off arms, nothing aftermarket underneath there, just some old hot rodding tricks). problem is, you're going to have to find a shop which has the know-how to do such an alignment.

OMG that is crazy. The only thing I can do is wish you luck my friend. You wouldn't believe what I had to do to get a 20X11 to fit and your talking 19X12. Ima tell you right now your gonna have to change out the rear brakes. I had to shave an 1/8inch off my caliper and that is from a factory S500. An S65 has a larger (in width) rear caliper. Not to mention I had to shave 1/4 inch off the rim itself and pull the fenders and still use a custom spacer to get it off the caliper. I have no rub but very time consuming to get it just right.

O yeah and made no camber adjustment and I have uniform tire wear.
