Gas Tank door open light......then Check engine light?

Gas Tank door open light......then Check engine light?
So I got the occasional red tank open light on the cluster, The first time I made sure it was closed, the second time it came on went back off, then came on again. I checked it again made sure it was tight, but then noticed the check engine light was on, and has stayed on for the last couple days. I haven't had time to check it out, or take it anywhere, I just drove one of the other cars for now.
Has anyone had this issue, what coded could it be, and why isn't the light going off?

if you have a rest tool but i'm not 100% sure but i think pepboys might be able to...

Happened to me but after closing it properly check engine light dissapeared and never came back.

yea I would have thought it would have went off by now. Even when my crank position sensor went out and the CEL came on, it went back off. So far it's still on, but I haven't had time to take it anywhere, and damn sure don't feel like paying a 100 bux for the dealer to do it
