2022 S500
8 year old battery

Our 02 S500 which was purchased in 01 has had the same MB Black Top battery since day 1. I know it should read 12 volts, but a mb technician tested the battery yesterday when he replaced the Crank Position Sensor and he told my father that it read 10 volts. Should we change the battery or just leave it as is?

Id check the voltage yourself through the climate control diagnostics. Anything about 13.6 while driving is fine. With the car off it should be above 12.

However, given the electrical demands of these cars, I'd consider replacing the battery if its marginal in any way. A weak battery can lead to a whole number of weird faults and its just not worth the risk imho.

New MB battery is about $175 or so.

battery check via climate ctl diagnostics?

I found this reply regarding using the climate control diagnostics on an S to check the battery voltage. Question: Can I do the same on my '05 CL55? If so how?

thanks ahead of time, Q-Dog

Your battery has lasted along time, you should purchase a new one ASAP to avoid complete failure. It is good to know that a battery can last that long, I would buy the same battery again if you can.

I think you should leave it like that cause 1) car is 8 yrs old and there is a lot of stuff that should be replaced and 2) MB technician will find a lot of things that a far from being new unless ur car has problems caused by battery.

Mine is original (6 years) and it seems I get some quirky electrical things happening randomly. The car sat for 6 months except for a start up here and there before I got it. Would you recommend going back stock or one of these other types?

How do i test the battery using the climate? Thanks in advance.

The battery won't help with your electrical gremlins, but you should have it load tested if you believe it will help in your quest.

It doesn't really bother me it is just stupid things. It will say that I have the driver's side turn signal out when it won't be and a few other things like that.

You may want to check the search in the forum for a quick fix. It could be as easy as disconnecting the battery for a 15 seconds and then reconnecting. However I am not sure that's what you should do,check it the search.
