TPMS Problems

Hey All, I have been having problems with my TPMS, every time I fire it up the warning dialog comes on that says the system is not functional. I can clear the warning while driving but this lasts about 5 minutes and is a real hassle. 2 questions:

1) Could this be a simple fix. I have tried all of the reset procedures and it reverts back to the error.

2) Is there a way to disable this system should the fix prove to be too costly. This is not a function that I am used to having.

This is a 2004 S430 4Matic, I am the second owner, all service has been done by the same mechanic at the dealership in Wichita, KS. Out of warranty - 70 K Miles.

Thanks

First of all "system not functional" is not an actual error. Usually it will tell you which wheel is having a problem, or that big red symbol that says warning.

Anyhow your year sems about right for a full replacement of all the sensors.

You can get them at tire rack for about 329 a set, or pay a dealer 600 plus installation.

I chose option a about 2 years ago and haven had any issues since excepts two actual flats... Arrrgh!!!..

anyhow,, good luck.

BtW. there is no repair on those sensors and they are just a PITA once they start to go which is usually 3 to 5 years.

There is a complete TPM Diagnostic guide on ALLDATAdiy.com that I have attached. This should help you understand the messages from your Mercedes a little better.
