NEED HELP!!!!!

Hello everyone. Is 143,000 miles too many miles for a used 2001 S500.
I really like this body style but I was looking for something around 80,000 miles. The is being sold at 9800.00. Is this a good deal.

Trust me when I say that you should not attempt to scrape the bottom of the price barrel on these cars. What you save in purchase price, you will easily make up in repairs.

My Suggestion Is get one that you can buy extended warranty for like an 05 or 06.
Besides the 2001 that you want to buy ,, will be in the shop more then you will drive it.
End Of Story

Spend a little more money, and get the updated model's 05 or 06
after all it's only money ,, and get one that has ALL the toys

I got my 02 S430 at 150k, it now has 167k and havent seen the shop yet. A friend of mine has a 2004 S500 and calls me all the time to pick him up at the dealer cause he's dropping off his car for service repair. His car has under 70k on the dash.
W220 engine is built to easily hit over 200k if properly cared for. I say if you like it and have the money go for it. Any car purchase is a gamble.

So wait, you're saying you consciously went and signed off on a car with 150,000 miles on the clock? Why?!

I personally don't see a problem with that at all especially if it was a good deal. As a matter of fact I purchased a vehicle with 140k now it has 210k ( in about 15 months) and the only thing I have done is change the oil and tires. Many members here have cars with less than 80k that can't even go 10k without going to the shop. But hey that just my $.02

I paid 6K (£) for my 02 600, it had 145K on the clock but all teh usual high expense items had already been paid out in the past 30K miles by the previous owner, ABC pump, shocks, brakes, Cats, Rad etc. Since I bought it all i have paid out for are my own choice to improve it, Tyres, service, repaint on the hood. My advise is dont buy unless it has had the known issues that can happen on these done or its low milage. of course unless you are a good home mechanic in which case go ahead just dont pay dealer prices for the parts.

I agree wholeheartedly. I made a post about the common problems w/ w220's as I've had just about EVERY widely reported issue go wrong with me, within 14 months of purchase. I wish I would researched more, and I would have found one with most of these issues already addressed. But nevertheless having this board for info and a good honest independent European Car specialist has saved me literally thousands of dollars.
To sum it up, knowing what I know now, I wouldn't buy it unless I stashed away some cash to fix some of the known issues that will inevitably pop up.
These cars are like computer hard-drives. Its not a question of "If it fails" its a matter of "When it fails"

With these cars, its a roll of the dice what you will end up with no matter what you pay for it. A short review of past post will reveal that quickly enough.

9800 for a 2001 is not such a great deal.. especially when a 2004 with less miles have a trade of about 13K. Look around.

Im getting to the point where my advice is that if you can't turn a wrench, just find another car. I hardly see the point of the w220 anymore otherwise especally such an older version.. tooooo many potential issues. If that doesn't bother you and you can turn a wrench, go for it but i'd keep looking for something newer. They are out there beleive me.
