Thinking about S500

New to MB world. Currently drive E39 530i, love it, but MB S is in my head.
How is the real world? Are they reliable? I would keep my bimmer as city car and MB would be for longer drives and weekends (show off car ). I would be driving it 3-5 K/year.
I will appreciate any advice.
Thank you.

well from owning both a 740 and 530 I can tell you the MB seats are alot softer. Also the steering is not as heavy feeling. With the prices these days for a few more dollars you could step up to the s55 or 600 which is an hands down better car, and show's off alot more.

All I can tell is that my S500 makes me feel better everytime I get to drive it (my weekend - mon tues, and holidays.) Read other posts about what to look at when buying one. I just got mine a month ago, 2001 S500 for $10.5k +fees +taxes and love it. Everyday I go to my garage to say hello to my "S", and than drive my honda to work.

Tell you what , Had an 02 S430 With No issue for 2 years , now I'm going on 2 1/2 years with my 03 S500 and only had to replace a knock sensor which was $160 installed . Now it depends How good of a car you get from the previous owner as each one are different from the other , Just try getting 03-up as they are revised in the interior and exterior .

Interior and exterior facelift... Pretty big changes, yet still retained a similar look. The interior is much much nicer IMO on the facelift 2003+ models.

I'd definitely want to, although I'm in CA.
Feel free to fly me out and ship over the ML.

The CL is essentially the S-Class coupe.

I'm in San Diego county. But I am looking for a newer car, 2004 and later, and still thinking S or CL.

You honestly can't go wrong with either. A 2004+ S or CL would be a great choice. Good luck.
