2003 s430 radio reception
Probably seems like a silly question, but I got in the habit of listening to sports talk radio in my previous car. Got a good deal on the s430 and all seems to be fine except the AM radio. I know that the antenna is part of the rear window, but I'm not sure the antenna is the problem. Sometimes the reception is great, other times it is covered in static, frequently after I have hit a bump in the road. It seems like the antenna connection to the receiver may be loose, but I don't know where to look.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I can live without it if I have to, but would like to get it working.
Thanks,
Bill

My previous 2000 S500 had the same problem. I searched it out to the connection on the antenna in the rear. It was located under the roof panel by the top Nav thing in the top of the car. I gently pulled back the top panel and noticed the antenna itself had become unplugged. So I plugged it in and it worked perfect from that day forward. Hope this helps.

There are also antenna connections in the trunk, on the right side; see post #8 at https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...-position.html. (Note - Bamberger didn't know if the connections were nav antenna/radio or nav antenna/cell phone - but the cell antenna connections are on the left).
You may need to check the antenna connection at the back of your COMAND as well.

Thanks for the link, I will check that this weekend and see what I can find. It sounds to me like there is intermittent contact on the antenna and the signal fades out or is covered by static usually after hitting a bump on the right side of the car.

Going on your description alone with no diagnostics, it sounds like a problem with the com-bar/antena amplifier. Make sure fuse 60 at the rear sam, should be a 7.5 amp fuse, is ok, if it is then I would look into the antena amplifier.
