Made a decision...

Going w/ a S430, Black/Java, Xenon's, heated seats, and parktronic.

Anyone have the S3 package (ventilated seats/multicontour seatbacks)? Is it worth it?

I decided not to go with the sport package. Seems like a lot of money for what it is. Anyone NOT get the sport package and regret it?

I also decided not to go w/ the S500. $10K for 25 more horses and plusher seats seems like a huge premium.

Any feedback?

Taurian.

Taurian,

I have the S3 Package on my 2001 S500. It is a nice thing to have on hot day’s (does help in cooling the seats.)

I decided not to go with the sport package. The tire noise to me was unacceptable (I also think the ride is a bit harsher.) One thing that I think is a must is the Active Body Control.

The difference between the S430 & S500 has been the subject for discussion many times on this board. If you go back a page or two in this section you will find them.

Finally, congratulations on your choice.

Nick,

I'm glad to hear the S3 package does make a difference. I can see having those fans coming in handy on a hot day. Interesting comment on the Sport Package. I like the appearance, although my better half tells me the car w/o sport is much "classier". I have never heard of the noise factor. Is this due to the tires, or the larger rim size?

Go for it. I have a regular 2000 S430 w/ no xenon's..but had heated seats and the phone system (go figure)

From what you've posted, you've got about everything you could get....except for the auto trunk closer...LOL.

Good Luck.

Don't worry about the extra HP on the S500...I still drive my S430 like my previous sports coupe and the sad thing is.....the S430 handles much better!

I too like the Wood Steering wheel. Not a bad idea! With the money I'm saving on not getting the S500 or Sport, I can add the small features that would make a big difference.

I would usually go top of the line, getting the S500 w/ Sport without thinking twice...maybe I'm getting frugal in my old age! (32).

Taurian,

Get the wood package. That is a must. The tire size and the tires itself (all season Vs. Sport) add to the extra noise and ride discomfort. Plus, on black cars like ours the side skirts and aprons (front and rear) of the sport package is not that visible, very subtle styling.

Did you get the car or are you planning on ordering one soon? Java might be too yellow (my opinion) make sure you look at that vs. Stone.

My must have options

(1) Wood package
(2) Active Body Control
(3) Parktronic
(4) Bi – Xenon’s (Standard on the 500)

Many here would say the sports package is a must. I disagree. The roads on Long Island and New York spoil the ride quality of a wonderful car.

Where are you getting the car from, dealership? Buying or leasing?

What all does the wood package include? More than the steering wheel and shift knob?
Thanks

Black??

hey taurian,

congratulations!
all S class auto's are terrific.
one thing though...have you ever had a black automobile before? i had a 00 ML430 with black exterior and java interior. it looked great when new. but...after a little time the exterior started to become not so attractive. plus it shows every little paint chip that the car gets. drove me so nuts that i finally traded for a 02 ML500 with desert silver. just sharing an experience so as to help you make a good informed choice.

congrats again!

Hey All - Thanks for all your positive input! S55 - Thanks! I am now in the 11th hour...I've got until tomorrow to make up my mind regarding options. I am thinking about the Pewter color for that very reason.

I have had a pewter truck, and it was great. My dealer says Pewter is the color of choice. However, nothing looks like an S class in Black when it is new.

My fear is that the color will look "dull" after 1 year.

BTW, one of my local dealers keep calling me re: 2002 S55 w/ 9,000 miles.

This is harder than when I proposed to my wife!

I am biased so take that into account when you hear this but, I would not buy another car UNLESS it is in black. The reason is black looks so wonderful and amazing when clean, and I do try my hardest to keep it clean. We have a black SL500 and we've had it for nine months and it still looks showroom condition after i detail it. I detail almost every week. But of course i am a student which is how i find all this time. Black cars are not a purchase, they are a hobby.

I just found out that the residual rates dropped in NY from 58 to 56 on the S500.
