Glove Compartment Button

The black paint on button that opens the glove compartment(below the lock) is flaking off.

Besides changing the whole unit which includes the button and lock ($250), do you have any suggestions as to how cure this minor issue?

Thanks.

do a search on ferrarichat.com in the 355 section for "sticky". They seem to know of a spray on material that somewhat closely resembles the rubberized coating.

Corsa, if you are referring to the stickiness of the button, take some alcohol and apply it to the button, keeping the solution off the leather. It takes some rubbing but it cleans up nicely. When done, apply a little Armor All to the button. I did mine and it came out better than new. Now I've got to do the steering wheel buttons.

No, not stickiness Jud, the black paint on the button is flaking off and exposing the white plastic underneath. An accidental scratch by a key must have removed a little paint thus more is flaking off now.

Of course there is no functional harm just cosmetically bothersome for an otherwise perfect car. I will probably just buy the part and replace it myself, the lock gets taken out of the old unit and inserted into the new one, so I don't have to change keys for glove compartment.

Mercedes
$3 can of interior/vinyl spray paint is cheaper than a $250 new button
