Stuck in Park.

I had just bought this beauty, it had shift problem and I had just got a new shift box, same problem. I need help.

if you are talking about a 1995 E320, you are in the wrong forum.

cyosondu@msn.co 05-09-2010 06:40 PM

stuck in park

This is actually a 2001 S430 that I am having problem with. I drive an E320

PlatinumEdition 05-09-2010 06:44 PM

your crank position sensor has gone bad, that should fix the problem

JonMBZ 05-09-2010 06:49 PM

who replaced the shifter?

Skylaw 05-09-2010 07:23 PM

I don't see the relationship between the CPS and being stuck in park. See the W220 S-Class Owners Start Here sticky at the top of this forum. Under Transmission, it has links that specifically address the stuck in park problem.

I actually do not see that sticky. Where exactly is it? Thanks for your help.

Go to the top of the W220 forum initial page, and look at the second thread.

PlatinumEdition 05-10-2010 05:19 PM

my fathers 02 s500 had the same problem couple years back and that was the first thing that came into mind since I cannot find the invoice on the actual part that was replaced to fix that problem

cyosondu@msn.co 05-10-2010 10:37 PM

I did find it, and thank you a bunch. It was such a big help. I was able to fix that problem today. What a rim job by Mercedes Benz.

tusabes 05-11-2010 07:29 AM

was it the crank position sensor causing your problem?

It was the infamous 5 cents flimsy plastic part, trying to move a big hunk of metal in order to disengage parking. You wonder why they couldn't have made it in steel. I guess deep inside they really don't give hoot about their reputation.:bow:

tusabes 05-12-2010 10:11 AM

so the new shift box you bought was defective too and gave you the same problem??

did you buy it used?

90% of the time its the pastic peice that needs to be removed. I did mine a few years ago.

There is always the possibility that (10% ish ) the switch under the break edal is bad and not allowing the solenoid to activate the plastic part which would make sense if the box was replaced. Very easy to find out as you can usually feel the solenoid activating if you press the brake pedal while holding your hand on the shifter

cyosondu@msn.co 05-13-2010 02:06 AM

Do you mean that plastic part is available by itself? Where? How?

cyosondu@msn.co 05-13-2010 02:09 AM

I bought a used one that needed programming, but by then I had already disassembled my old one as per the thread. I ended up swapping the modules. That did it.

Have a look at this video. These people have the part in both plastic and metal.
