Malfunction indicator or rattling noise heard originating from engine compartment or from under vehicle may indicate reduced catalytic converter efficiency – a basis for failing the state’s smog check program resulting in re-registration denial. MB has extended the emissions warranty from 8 years / 80,000 miles to 10 years / unlimited mileage for MY04 SL600, and MY01-04 CL600 & S600. If for some reason you have not yet received a notification letter, PM your email address and I will forward documentation.

2004 S55 (SOLD, miss it every day), 2009 GL550
since 2004 S55 is not mentioned, it makes me wonder if it has different cats than S600? I ASSumed they had similar exhaust systems since they are both very heavy breathers.

DEPENDS if it is externally damaged, such as from running over something and breaking the substrate inside causing the rattle, it will not be covered.
However if the damage is solely internal it is covered by the 8/80 Federal warranty and possibly the extended warranty if you are over 80k miles.

My cat went bad on drivers side with 61430 miles so glad they have warranty mercedes is going to fix it after a lot of tests at dealership. Kinda funny they replace the whole exhaust not just the cat.
