2004 S430 Express open close
Hi guys!
Yesterday I have ran in to the problem where express open and close would not work. I have two keys and about two weeks ago I have used that function where it was working just fine. I have spent about 20 minutes trying to get windows or sunroof to open or close holding the key pressed and nothing. My question is: Is this function key dependent or is there settings that override this function? My friend tells me to reset the system by disconnecting positive connection from battery and see if it works after. Also I noticed an issue with audio unit where it would usually turn up the volume depending on speed or if windows are open, now its not responding to those events. Any suggestions?

As you are probably aware the summer open/close feature depends on the IR sensor located on the driver door handle. The range at best is generally about 20ft and that depends on the ambient light, etc. One thing you can try is testing the feature at night, and hold the key close to the door. If it works, the easiest thing is to replace the batteries in the SmartKey to see if it makes a difference. If not, it is probably a faulty IR sensor in the door. You can check the sensor to ensure it has not been covered up with wax or another substance. They do fail occassionally and need to be replaced.

Thank you POLARBEAR and SKYLAW for your advise. It seems that it is a faulty sensor on drivers door. Today I held button pushed while walking towards the car when all of a sudden It started working. I have noticed that I was approaching from passenger side of the car. Once I have tried that from drivers side, nothing has happened. So I would assume that it is a faulty sensor on drivers side. And thanks for reset info Skylaw.
